Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed an Executive Order directing the Chief of the Atlanta City Department of Corrections to take the necessary action to permanently stop receiving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees under the current agreement with the United States Marshals Service. The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host a Doggie Splash Paw-looza on Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Midway Park Pool, located 3181 Midway Road, Decatur. Dogs are invited to splash into fun as this year’s pool season ends. Admission is $5 per dog to swim and all proceeds will fund enhancements for the Brookside and Mason Mill dog parks. Gov. Nathan Deal today announced that Nisshinbo Automotive Manufacturing, Inc. (NAMI), a leading manufacturer and supplier of environmentally friendly brake pads, will create 100 jobs and invest $72 million in an expansion of its Covington facility. State Sen. Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain), along with Marsy’s Law for Georgia, will host a community resource fair on Saturday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on resources that can help victims of crimes. The Rockdale Democratic Party will hold a special election to pick a chair and 1st vice chair to finish out the 2018 term. President Donald Trump has announced his plans to nominate DeKalb County Superior Court Judge J.P. Boulee to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta. Trump made the announcement on Aug. 27. Boulee has received praise for the nomination to the lifetime appointment from colleagues and others in the community who say he is compassionate, fair and a man of integrity.
