DECATUR, GA- The Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights is hosting the first-ever Pan African Festival at Decatur’s Historic City Square, 101 E. Court Square, on Saturday, Aug. 28, 3 to 8 p.m.  Admission is free.

Attorney Mawulli Davis, Beacon Hill’s co-chair, said the historic celebration is a cultural experience that should be shared by all.

“A Town Square where a Confederate monument once stood and the Klan would gather will be the site of our first-ever Pan African Festival,” said Davis. “This will be a space of culture, love, and healing,”  said Davis.

Organizers say the family-friendly festival is rooted in the Pan African experience. Co-hosted by Osei of radio station, V103, the event will feature music, dancing, drumming, innovators, food and art vendors. There will be performances by Mausiki Scales & The Common Ground Collective, the dance of Giwayen Mata, and hip hop and spoken word from Young Creators of The Black Man Lab’s “We Need You” album.

“Beacon Hill’s Pan African festival will be a celebration of the African diaspora and the economic achievements of its people uplifting Black entrepreneurs and small business owners, while also featuring Black-led organizations organizing in the fight for liberation,” said Fonta High, Beacon Hill co-chair.
