AME Church, Black Voters Matter Fund + New Birth unite
with others to empower, mobilize Black voters at mega event
DEKALB COUNTY, GA– The Social Action Commission of the Atlanta East District (AME Church) and the Black Voters Matter Fund, in partnership with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, will host a Black Voters Registration Day event on Sunday, Sept. 22. The free event will be held 3 to 7 p.m. at the gym at New Birth, 6400 Woodrow Road, Stonecrest.
The community is invited to an afternoon of empowerment, voter registration and an array of activities for families.
The event’s theme, “We are ONE. We are Powerful,” emphasizes a collective message of empowerment and action. Organizers say the objective of Black Voters Registration Day is to engage Black voters directly, providing essential resources to help them register, offering guidance on voting rights, and highlighting the collective power and strength of the Black community.
The event will feature food trucks offering diverse culinary delights and a vibrant DJ and entertainment performances at New Birth’s gym to energize the crowd. An election scavenger hunt with prizes will offer an interactive and educational activity for attendees, and children and teens will be entertained with a mobile bowling and game truck.
The Black Voters Matter BIG Bus will serve as a mobile hub of voter resources. There also will be Information tables that will provide vital voting materials. A series of speakers will share their insights on the importance of voting. Additionally, the documentary “Dying to Vote” will be screened, followed by a panel discussion on voting rights. The American Civil Liberties Union will host a panel discussion on Project 2025.
The event is sponsored by a host of nonpartisan organizations including Black Push; RepGA, City of Stonecrest; Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC); The Hype magazine; GA Protect the Vote; Maverick Global Distribution; Ignite Your Lyfe; GA Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda; Members of the Divine Nine; NAACP-DeKalb;National Council of Negro Women (NCNW)-DeKalb; National Council of Negro Women(NCNW)-Rockdale; Black Dot Cultural Center and more.
Confirmed speakers for the event include LaTosha Brown and Cliff Albright, co-founders of Black Voters Matter Fund; Attorney William Boddie from the Black Roundtable;and Chairman Carl Gilliard of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus; Helen Butler from the People’s Agenda; Teresa Hardy from NCNW DeKalb; and Derrick Jackson representing the Minority Caucus, to name a few.

With 24 African Methodist Episcopal Churches located in Atlanta and throughout the east corridor, the AEDSAC was organized in 2016 under the direction of presiding prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, Bishop Reginald T. Jackson, to serve as a conduit in the community on all social concerns.
