ATLANTA– Breakthrough Atlanta is seeking undergraduate college students for teaching internships this summer.
Internships are available for an eight-week program teaching middle schoolers and a three-week program teaching rising 10th graders.
See below for virtual informational sessions that will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The paid internships support Breakthrough Atlanta’s dual mission to increase academic opportunity for highly motivated, underserved students and get them into college ready to succeed; and inspire and develop the next generation of teachers and educational leaders.
Teaching Fellows gain first-hand teaching experience through instructing students in Breakthrough Atlanta’s Summer Program, a program that combats the summer learning loss that occurs among underserved students. It is a component of Breakthrough Atlanta’s six-year, tuition-free, year-round program that provides a pathway to college for hundreds of middle and high school students each year.
Below are details on both opportunities.
AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows
This eight-week fellowship includes leadership and classroom training with real-life experience teaching middle schoolers in Breakthrough Atlanta’s High School Readiness Program. The transformational program gives undergraduate college students the unique opportunity to get a head start on their careers as educators through teaching and leadership training in addition to classroom instruction.
Teaching Fellows practice skills applicable to both school and professional settings while completing 300 hours of service as teachers, mentors, role models, and learners themselves. Topics include lesson planning, feedback techniques, family conferences, presentations, time management, project planning, teaching academic and elective classes, and learning to work with a diverse team of colleagues and students.
