The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Corrine R. Joyner, wife of former City of Stonecrest Deputy City Manager Plez Joyner, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30. Mrs. Joyner passed away at home on Dec. 22, three days before Christmas, after battling uterine cancer. She was 58.
Mr. Joyner and their daughter, Corrina, 20, were at home with her when she made her transition. “My daughter has been amazing during this journey. She came home early from college to be with us. She has helped tremendously in planning her mother’s memorial and has been a great support to both of us,” Mr. Joyner said. Corrine Robinson Joyner was born Oct. 10, 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia to James and Josephine Robinson. She began a life of faith and love of God at Lindsay Street Baptist Church at a very young age and served on the Courtesy Guild as a teenager. She met the love of her life, Plez Anthony Joyner, while they were in college. She was a student at the University of Georgia (UGA) and he was a student at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech. After a long courtship, they were married by Rev. Anthony A. W. Motley, pastor of Lindsay Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, on Sep. 22, 1990. To this union, they were blessed with one beautiful daughter, Corrina Simone Joyner. Corrine worked for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the U.S. Treasury Department for more than 30 years. Her greatest passions in life were her family, her sorority sisters, and traveling with her family to distant destinations on an annual basis, including Jamaica, St. Lucia, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, London, Brussels, and Paris. Corrine cherished the many memories she created with her sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the University of Georgia. Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Plez, her daughter, Corrina, the extended Robinson, Matthews, and Joyner families, as well as all the friends who knew and loved her.
