Funding, assistance for homeowners, renters and small business owners to be discussed

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will host a special town hall to inform residents about the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill passed by the U. S. Congress in December 2020.

The DeKalb County Coronavirus Economic Relief Bill Town Hall will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, 6 p.m., and will feature legal, real estate and small business experts who will discuss the bill and explain how it will aid residents suffering economically due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The bill, known as the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, will provide financial relief for individuals and businesses as well as assistance to combat COVID-19.

“It is important that everyone is informed about the new relief bill and how it relates to their specific set of circumstances,” said Cochran-Johnson. “While it will not fix all of the hardships many face, it is a step in the right direction.”

Details about the stimulus payments and unemployment compensation, including information about any extensions, will be provided during the town hall. Additionally, experts will share information on the legislation’s key provisions for homeowners, renters and small businessowners.

Moderated by Commissioner Cochran-Johnson, the panel of experts will include:

  • Terri L. Denison, Georgia district director for U.S. Small Business Administration
  • Fariz Morani, CEO of Access Loans & Financing
  • Angela J. Riccetti, managing attorney for Atlanta Legal Aid Society Inc.

“A lot of people are struggling because they are not aware of the resources available to them,” said Cochran-Johnson. “It is my hope that this town hall will equip them with the tools they need to thrive and succeed.”

The DeKalb County Coronavirus Economic Relief Bill Town Hall is free and open to all DeKalb residents. Interested individuals should register at http://bit.ly/34M7qzd.

Residents are encouraged to submit questions to be answered during the town hall by emailing amslocum@dekalbcountyga.gov.
