DECATUR, GA– Inside the DeKalb County Jail this past Sunday, an inmate was waiting for his Versace eyeglasses to arrive via a contraband drop delivery. However, neither the spectacles nor other items reached the broken cell window because the string used to hoist the bag broke unexpectedly mid-air.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputies obtained warrants and arrested three people in the June 11, 2023 contraband attempt: Tremaine Ward, 22, of Atlanta, charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Misdemeanor (Misdemeanor) and Crossing State/County Guard Lines with Weapons,
Quintavious Chase, 28, of Atlanta, was charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Misdemeanor (Misdemeanor) and Criminal Trespass (Misdemeanor.
Miracle Smith, 18, of Atlanta, was charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Misdemeanor (Misdemeanor). The contraband bag contained cell phones, cell phone chargers, cigarette lighters, cans of shaving powder, a vapor pen, tubes of glue and the Versace eyeglasses. Ward, Chase and Smith were transported to the DeKalb County Jail without incident.
Later in the week, two additional contraband drops were averted, the Sheriff’s Office said. On Thursday, June 15, 2023, DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three people following an incident at the jail where the alleged delivery person was left behind as his alleged co- conspirators drove away in a vehicle after he filled the “drop” bag. Deputies apprehended Decatur resident Blake Street, 36, near the jail, as he attempted to flee the scene on foot. Two other persons were identified, located, and arrested nearby.
Street was arrested and charged with Crossing State/County Guard Lines with Weapons, Intoxicants, Drugs without Consent (Felony); Snellville resident Jazmyne Renee Howard, 32, was charged with Trespass – Unlawful Purpose (Misdemeanor.
Snellville resident Broje Alexander Simmons, 29, was charged with Trespass – Unlawful Purpose (Misdemeanor). Items in the “drop” bag included cigarettes and packs of unwrapped tobacco. All three arrestees were transported to the DeKalb County Jail without incident.
On June 16, 2023, an unsuccessful contraband drop netted a variety of items including marijuana and two summer sausages. Deputies arrested Hertis Johnson, 60, of Riverdale, outside the front of the DeKalb County Jail. Items in his possession were tobacco, cigarettes, soap bars, toothpaste, tweezers, cell phones, blunt power spray, lighters, bottles of Jack Daniels, cell phone chargers, SIM card removers, security bit sets, rolling paper, a package of red beans and rice, packets of marijuana, and two Bridgeport summer sausages.
Johnson was charged with Crossing State/County Guard Lines with Weapons, Intoxicants, Drugs without Consent (Felony) and Possession of Marijuana (Felony). He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
