CONYERS, GA—The Conyers Downtown Development Authority (DDA) recently presented the 2023 Outstanding Achievement Award to Ginette Nean for her efforts in renovation and beautification at Djea Natural Hair Spa at 933 Commercial Street in Olde Town Conyers.
Djea Natural Hair Spa opened in Olde Town Conyers in July 2022, but the business has been located in Conyers since 2010. Nean takes pride in her business specializing in healthy hair care, curly hair texture, and locs. Nean uses quality hair products and makes her own all-natural butter for locs. Djea currently has three stylists and three independent stylists who serve clients focusing on wearing their natural textured hair.
“Since I moved to Olde Town Conyers, my clients have had the experience of visiting different restaurants and participating in various festivals and events. A lot of them have never been to Olde Town, so it’s great to introduce them to the heart of our city. I have also organized a wellness event for the community and plan to host another one in the fall to bring even more customers downtown,” said Nean.
Prior to the relocation of Djea Natural Hair Spa to 933 Commercial Street, the building was the home of Unity Church of Rockdale. The building was also once home to Freeman Brothers Grocery in the 1950s, housed a shoe repair shop, was the location of a taxi stand, and later became a Colonial Bread Store.
“An extensive amount of renovation work from floor to ceiling, including updating electrical and heating and air conditioning which took nearly a year, was completed to transform the building from a place of worship to a hair salon,” said DDA Chairman Keish Momin. “Ms. Nean and her stylists are in an airy, modern and dynamic space for the ultimate haircare experience in Olde Town Conyers. We are fortunate Djea Natural Hair Spa is part of our community.”
This is the ninth year the DDA has presented the Outstanding Achievement Award to a business or individual in Olde Town Conyers that has taken great care and consideration with beautification or preservation and restoration of buildings in the historic district.
The Conyers Downtown Development Authority was created by the city of Conyers to be a catalyst for revitalization, promotion, development and redevelopment in Olde Town Conyers. The Conyers DDA Board of Directors consists of Jacob Bailey, Thua Barlay, George Levett, Jr., Renee Marrett, Keish Momin, Ashley Rustom and Brad Smith. The DDA meets the first Tuesday of the month at Conyers City Hall at 6 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
