DEKALB COUNTY, GA—A Decatur man has been indicted for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, despite a no-contact order.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, a DeKalb County Grand Jury indicted Laharry Ward, 57, of Decatur, on charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Violating a Family Violence Order in connection with the death of Toyka Biggs, 43.
According to the preliminary investigation, officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded just after 1:30 p.m. on July 21, 2026, to a report of an unresponsive person at an apartment complex on Friendly Heights Boulevard in unincorporated Decatur. When police arrived, they found Biggs lying on the floor of her apartment with multiple stab wounds and injuries from repeated blows to the head.
Just a month earlier, on June 20, 2026, police arrested Defendant Ward on a charge of Battery—Family Violence against Ms. Biggs. His bond in that case prohibited him from having any contact with Biggs and prohibited him from returning to the apartment they had previously shared.
Surveillance video from the apartment complex showed Ward at Biggs’ apartment around the time of her death.
Police arrested Ward on July 29, 2026, and he has remained in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
The case will be prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit. Once the case is assigned to a DeKalb County Superior Court Judge, Defendant Ward will be scheduled for an arraignment and then a trial date may be set.
