DECATUR, GA–DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to support Soldiers’ Angels food distributions for veterans, active military, guards, and reservists in 2024.
The DeKalb County-sponsored food distributions will take place on Jan. 26 and Feb. 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur. Registration for the Jan. 26 event is closed.
Each recipient will receive approximately 75 pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and non-perishable food items packed by volunteers and loaded into cars, pushcarts, or backpacks to 200 pre-registered veteran and military-connected families.
“Veterans are not the only military-connected people in need of food support,” said John Harris, Soldiers’ Angels Atlanta area director. “Researchers determined that active-duty service members and their families have a higher rate of food insecurity than their civilian counterparts, and we are thankful to partners such as Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson for helping us serve not only our veterans, but our qualified active-duty, guard, and reserve families.”
Soldiers’ Angels is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides aid, comfort, and resources to the veterans, military, and their families. Founded in 2003 by the family of Gen. George Patton, hundreds of thousands of Soldiers’ Angels “Angel” volunteers assist veterans, wounded and deployed personnel, and their families in a variety of unique and effective ways.
“As the daughter and wife of veterans, I understand first-hand the sacrifice they have made during the duty service,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “America has an obligation to ensure our veterans have access to food, healthcare, and housing as basic human rights so I am happy to do my part and support our local veterans.”
Registration for the Jan. 26 event is closed. Veterans and service members interested in the Soldiers’ Angels Veteran and Military Food Distribution’s Feb. 23 event must pre-register by visiting www.soldiersangels.org/atlanta.
