DeKalb commissioners unanimously support CEO Thurmond’s $500 employee vaccination incentive

Employees to receive $300 for COVID-19 vaccinations and $200 for flu vaccinations

DECATUR, GAToday, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved CEO Michael Thurmond’s proposal to give DeKalb County Government employees $500 in incentives for COVID-19 and flu vaccinations.

“These incentives are important tools as we continue to chip away at the number of unvaccinated people living and working in DeKalb County,” CEO Thurmond said. “I am grateful to the Board of Commissioners’ unanimous vote as we work together to protect our employees and the county.”

DeKalb County employees will receive a $300 incentive after they provide documentation by Jan. 31, 2022, that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Additionally, employees will receive a $200 incentive after they provide documentation that they have received the Fall 2021 flu vaccination.

DeKalb County’s approximately 6,000 employees can participate in the voluntary incentive program by providing proof of vaccination via a secure web page. Employees will be notified of the program and the web page address via county email or by their supervisor.

The incentives will be paid for with approximately $1.9 million in American Rescue Plan funds and $1.3 million in the county’s annual operating budget.

Since June 2021, DeKalb County has given $100 prepaid debit cards to 6,000 eligible residents who received COVID-19 vaccinations during county-sponsored events.

As of Nov. 15, approximately 53 percent of eligible DeKalb County residents are fully vaccinated. In DeKalb, 43.6 percent of African Americans have received at least one dose, while 58 percent of Whites and 73.9 percent of Asians have received at least one dose. Approximately 45.9 percent of Hispanics have received at least one dose.
