DEKALB COUNTY, GA- DeKalb County is mourning the deaths of a woman and a young girl who were shot to death during a domestic disturbance at the Forest of Columbia Apartments in South DeKalb this past weekend.
The suspect, William Lewis Almond, 48, who is now in custody, is the estranged husband of Tomika Pullins, 29, and the uncle of Dior Scott, 7, who were gunned down inside an apartment on Friday, June 13.
DeKalb County Police responded to a call about a double shooting around 2:48 p.m. at the Forest of Columbia Apartments, located in the 2500 block of Columbia Drive. When officers arrived, they found the woman and young girl shot and not breathing inside one of the apartments. Despite the efforts of first responders, both victims died at the scene, authorities said.
Witnesses told police the suspect, Almond, was trying to get into the apartment. When he was not allowed in, they say he broke a window and fired multiple shots inside, hitting both victims. Almond fled the scene, but was captured by police who determined that he was related to both victims.
“I want to thank the DeKalb County Police Department for its swift and diligent work in apprehending the suspect in this heartbreaking case,” said DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. “Their thorough investigation was instrumental in identifying these familial relationships and ensuring that the suspect was brought into custody. Our hearts are with the loved ones of Tomika and Dior. No family should ever have to endure such an unthinkable tragedy. As a mother and as your CEO, I grieve alongside our community and extend my deepest condolences to all those affected. We remain committed to pursuing justice and providing support to the family in their time of need.”
Commissioner Nicole Massiah, who represents residents in District 3 where the tragedy occurred, extended her condolences as well.
“This tragedy is heartbreaking. A mother and child lost their lives in a moment of unimaginable violence. As your District 3 Commissioner, I grieve with our community. There are no words that can ease this pain, but we can hold space for this family—and for every neighbor left shaken in the aftermath,” Massaiah said.
