DECATUR, GA– DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has appointed attorney, state legislator and civic leader Omari Crawford to serve as the County’s Chief of Strategic Initiatives. The appointment is effective today, Oct.1.
As a member of the CEO’s executive cabinet, Crawford will help advance the administration’s strategic priorities, coordinate high-impact initiatives across County departments and strengthen partnerships that support efficient government and improved outcomes for DeKalb County residents.
“Omari Crawford is a proven leader who understands DeKalb County, public policy and the importance of turning ideas into measurable results,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “His experience in law, government and community service will be invaluable as we continue advancing major initiatives and building a more responsive, effective and forward-thinking County government.”
As an attorney, Crawford has represented plaintiffs and defendants in business disputes throughout all phases of civil litigation and appeals. His work has also included quasi-judicial advocacy and helping clients navigate matters involving law, government and public policy.
Crawford currently represents Georgia’s 89th House District in the Georgia General Assembly. The Center for Effective Lawmaking named him one of Georgia’s 10 most effective lawmakers, recognizing his ability to navigate complex policy issues and deliver meaningful results.

Crawford is a graduate of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association’s 2024–2025 LEAD Program, the 2022 New Leaders Council Fellowship and Leadership DeKalb Class of 2021.
He serves on the boards of the East Lake Family YMCA and the MTS Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. He is also affiliated with 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, Inc.; the DeKalb Lawyers Association; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia.
Crawford earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from North Carolina Central University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from Florida A&M University. FAMU recognized him as a member of its 2024 “40 Under 40” class for his professional accomplishments and community service.
