DECATUR, GA—The young and the young at heart joined DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson for his 16th Annual Tree Lighting event on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, at the Porter Sanford, III Performing Arts and Community Center, 3181 Rainbow Drive.
“We want to always bring hope and allow for our community to share in moments like these,” said Commissioner Johnson . “We know holidays can be a challenge at times, but we encourage our constituents to keep perspective and know that we will be alright as we work together and encourage one another during this special time of the year.”
The free event was hosted by Chris “Cocktails” Cornell and featured performances rendered by special guest, Q Parker from R&B Group 112, accompanied by Crystal Nicole;Grammy-nominated Under21 The Band; Justin C. Gilbert;The Black Bettys; Tony Hightower; and Kimberlye McKinne. The audience also enjoyed The Chocolettes, who are part of Stepp Stewart’s “A Soulful Christmas” musical. Stewart, a Broadway veteran and Dance Fitness star on the Dr. Oz Show, created the African-American Christmas tale to celebrate show-stopping performances and choreography that feature soulful voices performing Christmas classics for the entire family for its annal shows: https://www.steppstewart.com/a-soulful-christmas
In addition to the performances, attendees enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies and information and goodie bags provided by the DeKalb County Board of Health. The event culminated with the lighting of DeKalb County’s great tree erected atop of the Porter Sanford II Performing Arts and Community Center on Rainbow Drive.
