DEKALB COUNTY, GA—The community is mourning the loss of William Geter III, the 49-year-old owner of Mo Better Chicken, a popular soul food restaurant located at 7331 Stonecrest Concourse in the City of Stonecrest.
Geter was fatally shot at his home by his son, William Geter IV, 22, early Monday, Nov. 2, after the two got into an argument, according to the investigation. The son was arrested on Nov. 3, the following day, around 3 a.m. and is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond.
Police responded to the 5900 block of Springfair Run after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found the father with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the shooting followed an argument between the father and son. It is unclear what the argument was about.
Warrants state the mother reported hearing gunshots while in the shower that morning and ran out to find that her husband had been shot. The mother told police the son fled in a car with his girlfriend.
The younger Geter has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the fatal shooting of his father.
Friends of the elder Geter say he was a beloved member of Southwest DeKalb High School’s Class of 1995. He was remembered with a special tribute on the Southwest DeKalb High Alumni’s FB page.
Other tributes and condolences to the family have flooded social media since the tragedy. No funeral arrangements have been made public as of Nov. 4.
