DEKALB COUNTY, GA— The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) has arrested two suspects in connection with a series of break-ins that occurred in Decatur on Tuesday night(April 21). Investigators released a video showing one of the suspects rummaging through one of the vehicles.
Corey Biggs and Malachi Campbell, both 20, were captured after a police chase and are now facing multiple charges including Aggravated Assault, Entering Auto, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Felony), and Fleeing and Eluding.
The chase began on Tuesday, April 21, after police responded around 8 p.m. to reports of multiple vehicle break-ins in the 1400 block of Church Street and the 1500 block of Sheridan Road. Several victims reported that the suspects pointed a firearm at them and threatened to shoot.
Shortly thereafter, DeKalb County police officers located the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled, leading officers on a chase. During the incident, the suspects attempted to evade officers by switching vehicles and entering a stolen car.
With the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol, the stolen vehicle was later located and police continued the pursuit to the 5400 block of Memorial Drive, where the suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. DeKalb police officers successfully pursued and apprehended the suspects, taking them into custody.
Police Chief Gregory Padrick attributed the quick capture of the suspects to the coordinated efforts of several law enforcement agencies.
“Our officers acted decisively to protect this community, and we will continue to use every lawful tool available to ensure those who endanger public safety are removed from our streets,” Padrick said.
Padrick said the investigation remains active and ongoing. He said additional charges against the suspects are anticipated as the investigation continues.
