DECATUR, GA – DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Irvin J. Johnson announces extended hours at the property tax office located at 4380 Memorial Drive Sept. 23–30 until 6 p.m.

“Each year ,we see an influx of walk-in customers as the payment deadline approaches. Many are unaware of alternative payment systems we have in place to save time and resources,” said Johnson. “I highly encourage taxpayers to review their options and consider online payment, pay-by-phone and secure drop box options to avoid long lines and wait times.”

Acceptable forms of payment include credit or debit card, check, money order, or e-check. There is no fee for paying by e-check; however, transaction fees apply for credit and debit card payments. If making a payment by drop box, cash is not accepted.

Customers paying their property tax bills at the Memorial Drive office will temporarily use the UGA Extension office entrance at the front of the building through Monday, Sept. 30. Seniors and customers with disabilities or a disability parking placard may still check in at the property tax side entrance from Northern Avenue.

Payments also can be made in person at the Clairmont Road and South DeKalb Mall satellite office locations from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

County bills were mailed mid-August which can be paid in two installments by the Sept. 30 and Nov. 15 due dates. Taxpayers choosing to pay the full amount in one payment must do so by the Sept. 30 deadline to avoid a late fee. Bills for City of Atlanta properties in DeKalb were mailed Sept. 15 and are due Nov. 15.

Payments made in the office, by phone or online are posted same day; checks, including e-checks, are posted in five business days. All payments must be made by the due date to avoid late fees.

Due to ongoing USPS mail delivery issues, taxpayers may experience delays. Before cancelling a payment, taxpayers should contact the tax office with payment concerns to avoid NSF and/or late fees.

Payment methods for current and prior year taxes:

  • ONLINE: Visit publicaccess.dekalbtax.org. Credit/debit card payments are accepted; processing fees apply. There is no service fee for paying by e-check.
  • PAY-BY-PHONE: Call 770-336-7500, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Credit and debit card payments are accepted; processing fees apply. There is no service fee for paying by e-check.
  • DROP BOX: Secure drop box available at all three office locations. Payment must be placed in the box by the due date; cash is not accepted.
  • IN PERSON: Offices located at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur; 3653 Clairmont Rd., Chamblee; and South DeKalb Mall at 2801 Candler Rd., Suite 66, Decatur.
  • MAIL: Must be postmarked by the USPS by the due date to avoid late fees; metered or kiosk postage dates are not accepted as proof of timely payment. Please consider alternative payment methods due to ongoing mail delivery issues.
