UPDATE: In response to the latest severe weather forecasts calling for prolonged freezing temperatures, snow, and icy conditions, the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) announced students will have a second consecutive Independent Learning day on Wednesday, Jan. 22. DeKalb County government also announced several closures for Wednesday. Details have been updated below.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA– In response to forecasted extreme winter weather conditions, the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will observe an asynchronous independent learning day on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025. Students will complete assignments at home using materials provided by their teachers, allowing learning to continue safely without live instruction.
All DCSD employees will work remotely on the day. Additionally, all school activities and athletic events have been canceled.
“The District appreciates everyone’s understanding and cooperation as it prioritizes the safety of ours students, staff, and families. DCSD will continue monitoring the weather closely and provide updates if additional schedule changes are necessary,” officials stated today.
DeKalb County offices, facilities to be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22
DEKALB COUNTY, GA–As a result of the pending inclement weather, DeKalb County offices, senior centers, libraries, recreation centers, the Sanitation Division’s customer service desk and the Planning Department’s One Stop Shop will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Public safety and other county employees who are required to maintain critical operations during the inclement weather event should check with their supervisors for instructions.
County employees who are not required to deal with the emergency conditions in person will work remotely.
