DECATUR, GA –The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit has made an arrest in connection with a man found in a burning car last December.
On July 22, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals and South Fulton Police Department S.W.A.T., sheriff’s investigators located and arrested Marcus Overstreet, 42, of Atlanta at a Flat Shoals Road apartment in Union City. According to arrest warrants, Overstreet is accused of Malice Murder in the shooting death of 36-year-old Mario Culver of Lithonia, on Dec. 22i n Ellenwood, Georgia. Culver’s body was found in a burning car on Wilson Avenue in Atlanta.
Overstreet was also arrested on warrants charging him with misdemeanors Simple Assault-Family Violence on Oct. 22 and Battery-Family Violence First Offense on Nov. 26 at a Boulder Springs Cove residence in Ellenwood.
Authorities say Overstreet has outstanding warrants in Fulton County for Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of Firearm or Knife During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Crimes.
During the arrest, Overstreet was treated for injuries sustained from a damaged window when he attempted to avoid being taken into custody.
Afterwards, Overstreet was transported without incident to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
