DECATUR, GA – As many residents are preparing to travel during spring break, DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Nicole M. Golden is reminding vehicle owners to check their registration.
“Driving with an expired car tag, or without a tag, can potentially cost you valuable time and money. Ensuring your vehicle registration is current should be on your travel checklist prior to any road trip, whether it’s in or outside of DeKalb,” said Golden. “Tags can be renewed online, at a kiosk or any three tax office locations.”
To avoid delays, taxpayers can go online to renew their vehicle registration, pay insurance fines, check their vehicle title and insurance status, change their vehicle registration address, and more at https://eservices.drives.ga.gov.
Self-service kiosks are also available at participating Kroger stores in DeKalb to renew eligible vehicle tags, eligible driver’s license and identification cards, and pay insurance fines. For kiosk locations, visit https://deKalbtax.org/kiosks.
A valid Georgia driver’s license with a current DeKalb County address is required to register a vehicle. Individuals moving to Georgia or moving from one county to another have 30 calendar days to register their vehicles. To update your address on your Georgia driver’s license or to find a Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) customer service center, visit dds.georgia.gov.
“We’re aware of several scams targeting residents through threatening text messages claiming to be a business, and even a state or county agency trying to collect fees. Please do not respond. Do not click any links or scan a QR code. Instead, verify directly with the official agency or business,” Golden said.
