DECATUR, GA– In response to National Weather Service forecasts of heat indices exceeding 100 degrees, DeKalb County is opening cooling centers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday(July 31-Aug. 2).
DeKalb County recreation centers and libraries will be available as cooling centers during the locations’ normal business hours. Water fountains will be accessible at county recreation centers , parks and libraries.
During cooling center activations, recreation center pools will be free to the public from 2 to 6 p.m.

The DeKalb County Department of Human Services, located at 30 Warren Street, Atlanta, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Seniors needing assistance can call the Senior Link Line at 770- 322-2950 for an assessment of need.
Persons in DeKalb County who need homelessness assistance or housing services can contact DeKalb County Coordinated Entry by calling 404-687-3500.

Frontline Response
Where: Frontline Response Headquarters Building at 2585 Gresham Rd.
When: From 11am-6pm during DeKalb COunty cooling center activations, (Frontline will not provide overnight services and guests cannot arrive prior to 11am)
What: Frontline will offer the following services while our Cooling Center is active – water and snacks provided to our guested in a controlled area inside the building. No bed availability.
Transportation Requests: Requests for transportation to and from Frontline within a limited geographical area will be centralized and dispatched by referral from Office of Emergency Management Chief Cox or his delegated staff only.
Need a shower, free lunch, clean laundry?
Free lunch, laundry and shower are provided 1 to 6 p.m., Sundays, at Tucker First United Methodist Church Activities Center, 4315 Church Street, Tucker. The Shower Ministry is open every Sunday regardless of the heat emergency. For information, call 470-431-7800.
