DeKalb Public Health Centers extend clinic hours and walk-in availability for back-to-school season

DECATUR, GA– DeKalb Public Health is kicking off the 2024-2025 school year with extended clinic hours and walk-in availability through Aug.17. Health centers will be open until 7:30 p.m. Services will include immunizations, vision, hearing, dental and nutrition screenings. Birth certificates also will be available through the Vital Records office.

“Back-to-school rush has a special and personal significance this year, as my oldest child is off to kindergarten,” said Dr. Sandra J. Valenciano, District Health Director and CEO of DeKalb Public Health. “I empathize with everything that my fellow parents and caregivers are going through. While this may be a stressful time for all of us, having the proper immunizations and screenings are essential for our children to have a healthy start to the new school year.”

Due to the anticipated volume of families with children returning to the classroom, DeKalb health centers will only be accepting walk-ins for back-to-school services between Mon. July 29 and Wed. Aug. 17. Parents should plan to arrive as early as possible.

Parents should bring:

• Each child and his/her immunization record.
• Each child’s insurance card. DeKalb Public Health accepts Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids and State Health Benefit Plan (Blue Cross/Blue Shield and United HealthCare). Other insurance plans may be accepted. Please call to verify.
• Cash, a debit or credit card, or a check drawn from a Georgia bank.
