Jordan Walton, a senior at DeKalb High School of Technology South and an audio/video technology and film student of Stacia Rhoades, is the winner of the Solicitor General’s 2019 Stop Teen Dating Violence PSA Contest.
Walton was awarded a prom prize package, which included dinner for two, a gift certificate from Fit For a Queen and a custom tuxedo from the Bello Mo Group for attire for himself and a guest, and makeup services courtesy of Lynette Clove of Mary Kay.
Solicitor General Donna Coleman-Stribling partnered with Fit For a Queen Boutique, Charlo Riney of The Bello Mo Group and Lynette Clove, an independent sales director for Mary Kay, to host the third annual contest. The contest was held as part of Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in February.
Coleman-Stribling hosts the annual contest to engage DeKalb County high school juniors and seniors in a conversation about healthy relationships and how to prevent relationship bullying among teens.
“It’s important to be aware of the signs of domestic abuse among teens and that they know where they can go for help. Intervention is the key to prevention,” Coleman-Stribling said.
Local teens were invited to produce a 1-minute video promoting healthy teen dating practices that prevent dating violence and highlight positive characteristics such as honesty, compromise, good communication, individuality, understanding and problem solving.
Walton was selected for his video showing how abusive behaviors can evolve in young relationships.
