Free school supplies, Open House events and more: Rockdale County students return to school Aug. 4

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Students in Rockdale County Public Schools will start classes for the 2025-2026 school year on Aug. 4. 

Registration is underway now and should be made by July 18 for new students. Details are provided below for new and returning students:

Parents also should mark their calendars for school Open Houses that will be held  ahead of the first day of school. Families will have the opportunity to meet teachers and find out about bus schedules and other pertinent information.

High School (Grades 9-12) Tuesday, July 29, 4 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Middle School (Grades 6-8) Wednesday, July 30, 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
Elementary School (Grades PK-5) Thursday, July 31, 3 p.m.-6 p.m.

Early Learning Center (ELC) at RCA – Tuesday, July 29, 9 a.m.-11a.m.

Clear Bookbag Requirements and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

All bookbags (backpacks) carried by students in Grades 1-12 must be clear. Clear bookbags are optional for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Students will carry their laptops in the school-issued, non-transparent laptop bag. Students participating in an extracurricular activity are permitted to carry non-transparent bags to store items pertaining to their particular activity (i.e. band, athletics, etc.). Upon entry into the school, all extracurricular activity bags must be stored in lockers or designated areas. All bags are subject to search. Additionally, the maximum size for non-transparent bags that students will be permitted to carry during the school day, such as lunch kits, pencil bags and purses, will be 6” x 9”.

Personal Device Pouches (Yondr cell phone bags) Grades PK-8:

Georgia’s Distraction Free Education Act (HB 340) requires all public schools in in the state to enact a policy and procedure for the use of personal electronic devices at school and school sponsored events by students in kindergarten through 8th grade. RCPS will be implementing the use of personal device pouches for Pre-K through 8th grade for the 2025-26 school year. 

Students will be asked to turn off their personal device upon entering the school building and place their device in a lockable pouch that they will keep with them throughout the school day. Pouches will be unlocked by staff members at the end of the school day. Pouches will remain at school. Students with medical needs or disabilities that require access to a device during the school day may be eligible for accommodations. Parents and guardians should contact their school to discuss individual needs and arrangements.
