ATLANTA – State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and Senator Tonya Anderson (D-Lithonia), both veterans, recently hosted the 10th Annual Women Veterans Legislative Breakfast at the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta. Held in recognition of Military Women Veterans Day at the Georgia Capitol, the event honored the service and contributions of women in the U.S. Armed Forces.
This year’s gathering featured meaningful discussions, networking opportunities, and recognition of women veterans making a difference in their communities. Attendees also addressed key issues affecting women veterans, including access to healthcare, housing, employment, and legislative efforts aimed at improving benefits and services.
Reflecting on the decade-long effort to support women veterans, Rep. Scott emphasized the importance of continued advocacy.
“We celebrate a decade of advocacy, but our work is far from done. We will continue fighting for the respect, recognition and resources that our women veterans deserve.”
Sen. Anderson echoed Rep. Scott’s sentiments, underscoring her commitment to championing policies that benefit women veterans.
“This milestone anniversary marks a decade of recognizing the contributions of women veterans and advocating for policies that improve their quality of life,” Sen. Anderson said. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that our women warriors receive the support and recognition they have earned.”
Reps. Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) also attended the event.
Drawing from personal experience, Rep. Davis highlighted the importance of advocating for women.
“As a veteran myself, I understand the sacrifices and struggles that come with service,” said Rep. Davis. “It is imperative that we push for policies that provide comprehensive support and empower our women veterans beyond their time in uniform.”
