ATLANTA – State Rep. Angela Moore (D-Decatur) will host a bridge dedication ceremony to honor former DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas E. Brown on Thursday, July 20, 11 a.m. across from the DeKalb County Jail on the corner of Memorial Dr. & Northern Ave.
A reception will be held at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, 4415 Memorial Drive, immediately following the ceremony.
Thomas E. Brown is recognized as the longest-serving elected sheriff in the county’s history. He has also served as the county’s public safety information officer and fire chief. Following the assassination of Sheriff-elect Darwin Brown, Brown was appointed to serve as the county’s sheriff. After his appointment, Brown was elected for three terms.
In 2022, Browne was appointed by U.S. President Joe Biden as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia.
During the 2023 legislative session, Rep. Moore sponsored House Resolution 349 to dedicate the bridge on State Route 10 over I-285 in DeKalb County in honor of Brown. This resolution was incorporated into House Resolution 256, which serves as the Georgia General Assembly’s annual road/bridge dedication legislation.
