LAWRENCEVILLE, GA—Gwinnett County Police Department is recruiting officers. The Department will host hiring events on Friday, May 15, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center, 854 Winder Highway, Lawrenceville.
Applicants who do not have an appointment are encouraged to arrive early. The process can take several hours, and applicants should plan accordingly, the Police Department stated.
Applicants must bring a valid driver’s license and should arrive dressed and prepared to complete the physical agility test. Appropriate workout or athletic clothing is recommended.
Phase I of this hiring event will consist of an orientation, an initial background check, a physical agility test, and an oral interview. Conditional job offers will be given to those who qualify. Phase II of the hiring process will take place later and will consist of a psychological exam, medical/drug screening, and an extensive background check to include the applicant’s criminal history and driving history. The application process typically takes about 90 days to complete.
Those who receive a final job offer will be eligible for immediate employment, regardless of the start date for the next police academy.
The Gwinnett County Police Department offers all officers a 4% annual raise and a 5% shift differential for Night Watch uniform patrol officers. Educational incentives of 3% for a 2-year college degree and a 6% incentive for a 4-year college degree are awarded to those who qualify.

To become a police officer, applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D., be a United States citizen and eligible for P.O.S.T. Certification, have a valid driver’s license from their state of residency, and be 21 years old by the time they graduate from the police academy.
