GWINNETT COUNTY, GA–Gwinnett County Police Department and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are partnering to host the National Prescription Drug Take Back initiative on Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event encourages people to drop off potentially dangerous prescription medications at collection sites around Gwinnett County. This includes unused or expired prescription medications. The purpose of the event is to combat overdose deaths, accidental poisonings, or abuse.
The proper disposal of drugs can save lives and protect the environment since unused drugs that are flushed down the toilet can contaminate the water supply.
Those who have tablets, capsules, patches, or other forms of prescription drugs can drop them off at one of the collection sites. Liquids, syringes, sharps, and other drugs will not be accepted. This event is for people who want to get rid of medications but do not have a way of properly disposing them.
People who drop off will not be asked questions about their medical history or how they obtained the medications.
Collection sites will be at the following locations:
Police Headquarters, 770 Hi-Hope Rd., Lawrenceville
District 1-West Precinct, 6160 Crescent Drive, Norcross
District 2 – South Precinct, 2180 Stone Drive, Lilburn
District 3 – North Precinct, 2735 Mall of Georgia Blvd., Buford
District 4 – East Precinct, 2273 Alcovy Rd, Dacula
