Gwinnett County to provide $6M in ARPA funding to assist small businesses

(GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– Gwinnett County received $181 million from the American Rescue Plan Act(ARPA) and commissioners allocated $6 million of the funds to help small business owners. The County is launching a Gwinnett Small Business Grant program to provide financial assistance to small businesses impacted by COVID-19.

Applications for the grant officially open Tuesday, Sept. 5.

A business is eligible if it experienced income loss or increased costs while continuing business during the pandemic. Estimated funds ranging from $3,000 to $15,000 will be awarded based on factors such as the number of employees, gross revenue, total applicant COVID impact, available funds and the number of applications received.

“The Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of supporting local small businesses that provide critical services, products and employment opportunities for residents in Gwinnett,” said Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, “The County further acknowledges the adverse impact the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had on our community’s businesses and these investments will be a vital step toward revitalizing our local economy and ensuring our small businesses thrive.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of Gwinnett County and served a vital role to residents during the pandemic,” said Economic Development Director Roman Dakare. “I would like to thank the Board of Commissioners for their foresight to keep small businesses growing and steady after what was an uncertain time.”

Applicants will be able to apply through an online application portal available in 68 languages. Support will be available via phone and email. Applicants must present verification of business license and payroll records, as well as documentation of COVID-19’s impact on their business.
