Rockdale voters return 7 incumbents, Sheriff Levett dominates three-way race, all results to be certified May 24
ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Voters overwhelmingly re-elected Rockdale Clerk of Courts Janice Morris on Tuesday, May 21, with 77% (9,311 votes)—earning not only the highest share of votes in her race but the highest number of all contested primary races in Rockdale.
Kai Oden, the sole challenger seeking to unseat Morris, received 22% (2,265 votes), unofficial results show.
Morris, who was overjoyed with winning, said that she is looking forward to serving a second, 4-year term.
“I am so thankful to supporters for their vote of confidence. In ree-electing me. I will continue to be accessible, approachable and accountable,” said Morris. “I’m going to roll up my sleeves and go right back to work.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Eric J. Levett, who is serving his third term in office, easily won the three-way race on Tuesday, May 21. Levett will begin serving a fourth term when he takes the oath of office in January 2025.
Levett dominated the three-way Sheriff’s race, receiving 59.52% (7,391 votes ). Challengers Corey Hambrick placed second with 35.86% (4,453 votes), while Ronald Muckle received 4.5% (573 votes), unofficial results show.
Other incumbents re-elected
Chief Magistrate Judge Phinia Aten; Probate Judge Gary W. Washington; Tax Commissioner Tisa Smart Washington; Coroner George Levett, Jr. and Post 2 Board of Education member Pam Brown were re-elected in uncontested races.
Non-partisan contested judicial races
Maureen Wood defeated Clarence Cuthpert, Jr. in a tight race for Rockdale Superior Court Judge. Wood garnered 53.05% with 6,421 votes. Cuthpert received 46.71% with 6,421 votes, unofficial results show. Wood will succeed long-time Judge Robert F. Mumford, who is retiring after serving on the bench since 1993.
Tabitha Ponder soundly defeated Jeff Davis with 61.85% (8,116 votes) for Judge Court of Appeals. Davis received 37.86%(4,969 votes).
Rockdale County’s Voter Turnout
According to Rockdale’s unofficial election summary report, the county had a 23.72 percent voter turnout with only 14,545 of 61,318 registered voters participating in the May 21 elections.

The Rockdale Board of Elections and Voter Registration, 1115 West Ave. S.W., Conyers will certify the results of the May 21 elections on Friday, May 24, 6:30 p.m. The public may attend.
