LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A Lawrenceville man was ordered to serve three life prison sentences for sexually assaulting a young girl dating to when she was 3 years old.
A Gwinnett County jury on Tuesday, April 28, found Jorge Nagera Perez, 33, guilty of two counts of rape, three counts of aggravated child molestation, and two counts of child molestation for abusing the young girl from between ages 7 and 11. He was sentenced to three life prison terms plus 89 years.
“This is absolutely depraved,” District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “We will continue to help this young girl and her family get the assistance they need to heal and recover from what the defendant did.”
In September 2022, police were alerted of the sexual assault allegations. The girl was 11 years old at the time, and investigators learned that the defendant had been having sexual contact with her for four years while she lived in Georgia.
Witnesses from Ohio, where the girl used to live, testified during trial that there had been abuse stemming back to when she was 3 years old. Jurors deliberated for about four hours before finding Perez guilty of all charges.
Gwinnett DA Special Victims Unit Assistant District Attorneys Dallas Cox and Scott Estes prosecuted the case with assistance from SVU Investigator Joseph Boyd and SVU Victim Witness Advocate Rocio Peneda. The Gwinnett County Police Department was invaluable in helping to prosecute this case.
