CONYERS, GA—Conyers City Councilwoman Connie Alsobrook is beaming with pride over her nephew, track star Logan Alsobrook. The 10-year-old recently brought home gold in the 800-meter dash and medaled in two other events in the 2024 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics Games in Greensboro, N.C.
“I’m proud of my nephew because he’s achieved something remarkable that many people, including most adults, may never get the chance to do, and he managed to do it at just 10 years old. That’s a significant accomplishment and a great reason to be proud,” said Councilwoman Alsobrooks.
The councilwoman says she’s also proud of her 9-year-old niece, London Alsobrook, Logan’s sister, who competed in the 4×400-meter relay and the 9-year-old Girls’ Triathlon and Long Jump. The children live in Memphis, TN with their parents, Christopher and Jerrica Alsobrook, who are high school sweethearts. Together, the couple provide a stable and nurturing environment for their children, said Connie Alsobrook, who is related to the children through her sister, Angela Alsobrook.
Logan’s feat marks another historic achievement for the Alsobrook family as Connie Alsobrook was sworn in on Jan. 8, 2020 as the first black woman on the Conyers City Council.
“Our family is rallying around both of the kids, mainly in spirit since their track meets are spread across the country, making it difficult for most of us to coordinate schedules,” said Councilwoman Alsobrook.
Logan, who is in 5th grade, has been competing since he was 7 years old. He worked hard to medal gold, running a time of 2:15:93 in the 800-meter this year.
In 2023, Logan medaled silver in the 800-meter. He gained national attention from HOKA, an outdoor sporting goods company, who featured Logan and his teammates in its “Humans of HOKA” marketing campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWVEFX041IE
Inspired by Team USA sprinter Noah Lyles, who won gold and bronze this past week, Logan said his goal is to go to the Olympic Games one day.
“I always do my best no matter how big they are!” Logan said.
