DECATUR, GA—Registration is underway for the DeKalb County NAACP’s inaugural Virtual 5K Run/Walk, which will be held Sept. 24 through Oct. 3. The deadline to register is Sept. 1.
Teresa Hardy, president of the branch, says the 10-day event is a way to promote healthy living, while supporting the DeKalb NAACP. She is encouraging local residents and those who live outside of DeKalb to sign up and get their cell phone cameras ready.
“COVID-19 has transformed the way we communicate and support each other. We will use this event to run with a purpose, support our community and promote healthy living,” said Hardy. “Let’s run COVID-19 out of DeKalb County!”
Participants may run or walk one day or participate the entire 10 days that the event will be held. Both, individuals and groups, are welcome. Participants are encouraged to find creative ways to include their families in the event and everyone is encouraged to set fitness goals.
The branch wants to capture the action through photos. Participants are encouraged to take selfies or group shots (if participating as a team or family) and email the photos to 5KRun@naacpdekalb.org.
Also, those interested in participating are encouraged to check out the branch’s 5K Run/Walk promotional video.
Participants will receive a race packet, which includes a T-shirt and race bib. Registration is $20 per person. To register, become a sponsor, or donate, go to www.naacpDekalb.org. For more information, contact Dr. Chris Griffith, Health Committee Chair, at 404-241-8006 or 5KRun@naacpdekalb.org.
