“Reclaim Your Vote Tour” launches as Georgia’s Senate runoff nears finish line

STONECREST, GA– Leaders of several of the nation’s most influential civil rights organizations gathered on Sunday(Nov. 4) to rally and get out the vote for Georgia’s hotly contested Senate race. The battle between Democratic incumbent, Raphael Warnock and his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, will be decided on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

During the noon press conference and rally, organizers urged voters to make their voices known in the mid-term election at the ballot boxes on Election Day.  The rally was held at the New Black Wall Street, 8109 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest. An incubator of minority and women-owned business, The New Black Wall Street is a tribute to the affluent Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma that was destroyed in 1921 through racial violence and is an emblem of the issues at stake in the upcoming election, organizers said.

The gathering was part of the National Urban League’s voter education and civic engagement initiative, “Reclaim Your Vote State of Emergency Road Tour.”

Stonecrest Mayor Jazzmin Cobble and Pastor Jamal Bryant of the mega New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, which is located in the city of Stonecrest, were among the local speakers on the national stage who spoke at the rally.

National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial, Urban League of Greater Atlanta President and CEO Nancy Flake Johnson, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation President and CEO Melanie Campbell, Georgia NAACP State Conference President Gerald A. Griggs, and Black Voters Matter Co-Founder LaTosha Brown were part of the tour and canvassing to combat misinformation concerning the election.
