DECATUR, GA – The City of Decatur invites community members, neighbors, partners and visitors to celebrate the completion of the downtown Decatur Square improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, June 5, at 6 p.m.
The event marks the completion of Phase I in the Town Center 2.0 Plan, an effort to enhance Decatur’s downtown core while preserving the character, connectivity and vibrancy that makes the Square a gathering place for the community.

Artist’s renderings and playscape photo: New in 2026, the $8.5 million renovated Decatur Square features a new stage and more lawn for residents and visitors to enjoy, public restrooms, and a colorful playscape for children. The project was funded from Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax(SPLOST II) dollars.The Square sits above the Decatur MARTA Station and is surrounded by locally-owned shops and restaurants. Friday’s ceremony is open to the public and will include remarks highlighting the vision and impact of the plan, the future of Decatur, while recognizing key partners, stakeholders, and contractors.
Attendees are encouraged to stay after the ceremony for the Amplify Decatur Music Festival. Decatur WatchFest ‘26 also will occupy the community space beginning Thursday, June 11.
