DEKALB COUNTY, GA –One of Georgia’s most respected community leaders will be celebrated with the renaming of Flat Shoals Parkway as Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr. Parkway on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m.
State Rep. Angela Moore (D-Stonecrest), who introduced the resolution to dedicate the road in honor of Levett, will host the ceremony at the corner of Wesley Chapel Road and Flat Shoals Parkway.
Levett has established a legacy of service to grieving families and the community since 1980 when he and his wife, Betty, founded the Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory. The institution, which serves more than 2,300 families a year and employs 175 full and part-time employees, has four locations, including its South DeKalb location on the former Flat Shoals Parkway.
The Levett family has donated more than $2M to institutions of higher learning, churches, hospitals, charities and community organizations. Dr. Levett serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Emory University Hospital and the Budget and Finance Committee for Emory DeKalb Hospital. He was also appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve on the State Board of Directors for Stone Mountain Parks and Recreation and is a recipient of the President Barack Obama Lifetime Achievement Award for his volunteer services.
During the 2025 legislative session, Rep. Moore introduced House Resolution 96, which dedicates a road in Dr. Gregory B. Levett, Sr.’s honor. HR 96 was then incorporated into House Resolution 7, the House’s annual road dedication package, and was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp.
