ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA– Rockdale County Chief Magistrate Judge Phinia Aten was recently selected chair of the International Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, a respected and renowned legal institution founded in 1888 that offers innovative programs and services to Georgia’s legal community, including practitioners, academia and judges.
Judge Aten oversees the professional development, educational and social networking opportunities hosted by the group.
“The International Section strives to be a powerful platform for all relevant international legal topics and knowledgeable network for our members practicing around the globe,” stated Judge Aten.
“Georgia’s rapid and continuous growth, as an international travel destination and transnational business epicenter, means inevitably our lawyers are bound to encounter international legal opportunities and a vibrant and multicultural community of colleagues and clients in your professional and social circles. I want us to be well-equipped when we engage them.”
Judge Aten currently mentors women judges in Kyrgyzstan through a U.S. Department initiative. She is a past chair of the American Bar Association’s National Conference of Specialized Court Judges with primary responsibility for international courts.
Earlier this year, she served as a member of the American judicial delegation of the International Women Judges’ Conference in Morocco. Judge Aten possesses over a decade of experience organizing and leading international legal conferences in a host of countries including Haiti, Belize, Egypt, Spain and Brazil among others. Judge Aten has served as the elected chief judge of the Rockdale County Magistrate Court since 2013.
