ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA – Rockdale County Probate Judge Gary Washington has tested positive for COVID-19, the county said in a news release today (Aug. 18).
Washington told On Common Ground News that he contracted COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated since March 28, 2021.
“Initially, I tested negative. But I wasn’t feeling well and took another test a couple of days later and that test came back positive,” said Washington.g
The Probate Court is now working with judges in nearby jurisdictions to assist with the caseload and backlog, the county said in a news release.
The Probate Court was closed for two days during the week of Aug. 2, but is now open for walk-in service.
The court reportedly took the following actions to ensure the safety of employees and the community following the exposure:
- Closed the building for 2 days
- Deep cleaned the office
- All employees tested for COVID
- Air ducts checked and ventilation reviewed
Rockdale County Probate Court remains open for walk-in service.
Information, including the ability to print and complete the weapon carry license application, has been placed on the website at www.rockdalecountyga.gov as well as a link customers may use to retrieve estate information.
“We continue to build our staff during these trying times,” Washington said. “We ask for your patience as we continue to provide customer service. We can all beat this if we do our part.”
Employees continue to take precautionary measures including wearing masks, sanitizing, and social distancing.
