ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA—Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the launch of the GEES & GEMS Youth Academy.
The GEES (Gentlemen Exemplifying Extraordinary Strength) and GEMS (Girls Exemplifying Majestic Strength) is an opportunity for Rockdale County middle schoolers, ages 11-13, to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office, while the agency promotes career and character development geared toward public safety.
During the four-week program, students will receive an overview of the agency’s various units, including the following: K9 Demonstration, SWAT scenario, Crime Scene Investigation, Jail Tour, Motorcycle Demonstration, Traffic Stop Scenario, Drone Demonstration, Georgia Law on Participation in Criminal Gang Activity, and more. Students will learn what to do when they encounter police. At the end of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion.
The Sheriff’s Office is excited about the launch of this program, as it gives Rockdale County students a safe and educational way to learn more about law enforcement/public safety.
“With such a huge stigma on law enforcement, our newly-formed academy is designed to educate our youth about the Sheriff’s Office and how it functions and enforces local and state laws in conjunction with other public safety agencies, said Sheriff Eric J. Levett.”
The program is free for participants. However, space is limited. The academy will held on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Sheriff’s Office April 29 through May 20.
