ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA–Rockdale County voters overwhelmingly turned out for Democrat Stacey Abrams in her bid for Georgia governor on Tuesday, but it was not enough to stop voters statewide from re-electing Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.
Abrams, who actively stomped for votes in Rockdale, outpaced Kemp with 70.91 % (24,702), unofficial results show. Kemp received 28.48% (9,922).
In addition to Abrams, Rockdale voters also supported Democrats in every single state-wide race. Those races, like the governor’s race, also were ultimately won by Republicans, according to unofficial results posted by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office
Voters overwhelmingly approved the Rockdale County School District Homestead Exemption. The measure increases the exemption to $50,000 for senior citizens ages 65 or older or permanently disabled citizens. Unofficial results show that the measure received 90.29% (30,638) yes votes and 9.71% (3,296) opposed the measure.
