Congratulations to the dynamic winning scholars, Briana Gibson-Gary, Michael Okigbo and Justin Poku for receiving the 2nd annual Arts & Education R.E.E.S.E. Scholarship founded by LaCosha Williams.
The scholars were celebrated and joined by the inaugural 2023 scholar winners in a congratulatory scholarship brunch and service. The scholarship recipients are from Rockdale County High School, where Williams’ son, Lawreese, graduated in 2008 prior to attending Savannah State University and Saint Philip AME Church (their church home).
The annual scholarships were launched March 7, 2023 to carry on previous plans and the goal that Williams and her son shared to create community programs that served aspiring minorities. In addition, awarding scholarships to deserving, ambitious high school students (especially males) were a pivotal next phase of their legacy plan. Each of the outstanding 2024 recipients received a $1,500 scholarship. The winners are going to attend various universities starting this Fall. Briana will be attending Arkansas State University Queretaro, Michael will be attending Georgia State University and Justin will be attending Mercer University.
Williams stated, “Reese and I planned to inspire, recognize and celebrate deserving high school students, as our Williams Legacy in the coming years. We are still making this happen through three generations. To date, $10,500 scholarships have been awarded (2023-2024) from fundraising to generous donations from the community, family, village friends and the Founder’s seeding. This was and is important to us because this world has many distractions that detoured many to destruction; and away from their true crown and success bound mantle. There is enough negativity in this world, so our goal is to provide LOVE & LIGHT through ongoing annual scholarships to seed into greatness”.
