ATLANTA—State Rep. Doreen Carter, who represents Georgia House District 93, is urging residents to stay informed and participate in the upcoming Nov. 4 elections.
In her Oct. 26 online newsletter, Carter highlighted the importance of the elections for some residents who live in unincorporated DeKalb County who will decide whether they want to be annexed into the City of Lithonia.
Carter also expressed her concern over the lack of transparency regarding the Conyers City Council’s proposed changes to the city’s governing structure. Carter recently called for a pause on the council moving forward to change the city’s charter, saying that residents must have an opportunity to weigh in through public hearings.
Here’s what Carter stated:
“…I want to ensure that residents across our district are informed about important local matters appearing on the November 4th ballot and other municipal issues currently under consideration.
“On Tuesday, November 4, voters who live in the area proposed for annexation into the City of Lithonia will decide whether to approve joining the city limits. Current residents of the City of Lithonia will not vote on this measure. It’s important that eligible voters in the proposed annexation area carefully review the details and understand how annexation may affect city services, property taxes, and local representation before casting their ballots.
In the City of Conyers, the proposed charter amendments that were previously scheduled for a vote this fall have been delayed. I have expressed concern about the lack of communication and transparency in this process and believe residents deserve full notice and input on any proposed changes to their city’s governing structure. My office will continue to monitor this issue closely and share updates as they become available.
As always, I encourage residents throughout House District 93 to stay engaged, ask questions, and make your voices heard in every election.”
