DEKALB COUNTY, GA—District Attorney Sherry Boston announced a conviction by jury trial in the case against a Stone Mountain man accused of fatally shooting his younger brother during a fight over a fan.
A jury found Quentin Hill, 31, guilty on charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, stemming from the death of Westley Hill, 28. The jury reached its decision on Friday, June 14.
The incident took place on New Year’s eve in 2021. According to the investigation, officers responded to a call of a person shot at a home in the 4700 block of Lost Colony Court in Stone Mountain around 4 a.m. Officers found the victim, Westley Hill, lying on the living room floor with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses said Hill shot his brother, Westley, then fled in their mother’s car. One witness, who was in a bedroom at the time, heard the gunshots being fired, authorities said.
The brother’s mother was inside the house at the time of the shooting. She told investigators that her sons had a dispute over a fan, and Hill grabbed a gun. The mother tried to diffuse the situation, telling Hill that the matter wasn’t that serious. Hill put the gun down and went outside. After he came back inside, she heard shots followed by Westley screaming, authorities said. Westley, who was shot twice, succumbed to his injuries.
On Feb. 5, 2022, the vehicle that Defendant Hill fled in was spotted back at the house. Officers spoke with Hill’s mother, who said that Hill had left the car at a different location and that she had been driving it. Hill was not at the home, and his mother said she had no information about his location. On March 29, 2022, at the urging of his mother, Hill turned himself in to authorities.
Sentencing for Hill will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Tangela Barrie presided over the trial.
The case, assigned to the Homicide & Gangs Unit, was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Tauri Thomas with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Emily Donkervoet, District Attorney Investigator Christopher Hollowood, and Supervising Victim Advocate Ikwo Nyong. Former DeKalb County Police Department Detective J.B. Williams, now an investigator with the DA’s Office, led the initial investigation.
