Stone Mountain, Redan renew 40-year rivalry as DeKalb teams enter Week 2 high school football

DEKALB COUNTY, GA—The third-longest football series between DeKalb County teams renews for the 40th time as the Stone Mountain Pirates and Redan Raiders meet on Thursday(Aug. 27) at Adams Stadium.

Both teams enter the contest under new head coaches as Robert Winn, Jr. leads the Pirates (0-1) and Ronald Lewis is at the helm of the Raiders (0-1) program in the game set for 6 p.m. Both coaches are looking for their first victory at their new schools.

Redan has won four consecutive meetings between the two squads and leads the series 25-14-0 overall.

The Towers Titans (1-0) will hit the field at Godfrey Stadium on Thursday as they take on BEST Academy of Atlanta (0-1) at 6 p.m. Towers is vying for a 2-0 start to the season.



Four games in DeKalb County stadiums on Friday night feature two all-DeKalb matchups. 

Martin Luther King Jr.  High Lions is coming off a 37-8 loss to a ranked Lithonia team in the DeKalb County Kickoff Classic last weekend and faces off with the Miller Grove Wolverines (1-0), who defeated Chamblee last Friday.

The MLK Lions have a 6-0 lead in the all-time series matchups with Miller Grove. The two teams last played in 2017 with the Lions coming out on top 19-14.

Adams Stadium has the Chamblee Bulldogs (0-1) hosting the Arabia Mountain Rams (1-0) in a 7 p.m. kickoff. The game was moved from North DeKalb due to electrical work at that location.

Chamblee is looking for some offensive upgrade after getting shutout in their opener against Miller Grove. Arabia Mountain ran away to a 42-6 win over the Raiders in the opening week.

Arabia Mountain holds a 7-3 margin in the all-time series with Chamblee, but the Bulldogs won the 2025 meeting 49-3.

The No. 3-ranked Stephenson Jaguars (1-0) go for a second win on the season as they host the Decatur Bulldogs (0-1) in a 7 p.m. game at Hallford Stadium.The two DeKalb County have only met four times. Stephenson tied the series 2-2 with a 27-17-win last season.

The Cedar Grove Saints (0-1) play their first home game in the season as they host Ola (0-1) at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on Friday. The Saints lost a tough 28-3 contest on the road at Shiloh last weekend.

Nine DeKalb teams hit the road for Week 2 games while Lithonia gets a bye week.
