New rules impact proposed housing developments planned as rental communities
STONECREST, GA – The City of Stonecrest now requires residential developers to disclose whether dwellings in their proposed communities will be for sale, rent, or a combination. The City Council unanimously approved the ordinance at its Oct. 24 meeting.
Ordinance 2022-10-03 impacts all dwellings in Stonecrest.
The new law states only ‘for sale’ developments are permitted to be built within single-family residential and mixed-use districts. The rules designate the construction of ‘for sale’ or ‘for rent’ communities to Stonecrest’s multi-family residential districts.
“This ordinance was developed with significant input from the community and City staff,” said Mayor Jazzmin Cobble. “I believe this law protects the quality of life in Stonecrest and preserves the residential character of our neighborhoods. Furthermore, it solidifies our commitment to smart and sustainable growth initiatives in accordance with our comprehensive plan.”
Stonecrest’s ordinance was designed to help protect the public’s health and safety. The law encourages safer living conditions for the area’s most vulnerable residents.
“To be clear, this ordinance does not address short-term rentals,” added Ray White, Stonecrest’s Director of Planning and Zoning. “However, as Stonecrest continues to become the preferred destination for individuals reviewing locations to call home, it is imperative that we embrace guidelines, which encourages homeownership and anchors investments in our community.”
