DECATUR, GA– DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has appointed William “Bill” Linkous III as County Attorney, bringing seasoned leadership, institutional knowledge, and legal excellence to one of the most critical roles in County government.
“Bill Linkous is a respected legal strategist with decades of experience guiding local governments through complex challenges,” said Cochran-Johnson. “As we implement a bold agenda for DeKalb County, we need steady, principled leadership in our legal office, and Bill brings that in abundance. His return is not only a homecoming, but a tremendous asset for our future.”
Linkous, a veteran government attorney, previously served as DeKalb County Attorney and Chief Assistant County Attorney, where he advised on major governance, land use, personnel, and litigation matters. His career spans more than 30 years in public sector law, including leadership roles in Gwinnett and Hall counties, as well as in private practice where he focused on municipal and employment law.
Known for his integrity, fairness, and deep understanding of Georgia law, Linkous has guided government bodies through high-profile legal disputes, charter revisions, and complex intergovernmental agreements. He has also played a key role in shaping personnel policies and public ethics standards.
In his role as County Attorney, Linkous will lead the County’s legal team and advise the CEO, Board of Commissioners, and senior leadership on legal matters including policy development, contract negotiations, litigation management, and compliance.
