Zone DeKalb to host community workshop, seeks public input on zoning and sign ordinance update

DECATUR, GA– The Zone DeKalb project is currently undergoing active community engagement and community members are invited to participate in the upcoming Community Design Workshop.

The DeKalb County Planning & Sustainability Department is hosting the Zone DeKalb Community Design Workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the DeKalb Government Service Center, 178 Sams Street, Decatur.  

What is Zone DeKalb?

As DeKalb County continues to grow and evolve, now is the time to take a fresh look at the regulations that shape the county’s communities. The Zoning and Sign Ordinance Update will help ensure these regulations reflect the community’s vision for the future, align with the 2050 Unified Plan, and respond to existing development patterns and changing needs. The county is in the process of engaging residents, businesses, property owners, and other community members to help shape recommendations for updated ordinances, with adoption targeted by the end of 2027.

Community Design Workshop

Sept. 23 | 178 Sams Street, 5– 7 p.m., Meeting Rooms A1201-A and A1201-B inside the DeKalb County Government Services Building

Join the hands-on Design Workshop as part of the DeKalb Zoning and Sign Code Update. Community members will work directly with the project team to explore development scenarios, discuss ideas for the future of their neighborhoods, and help shape recommendations for the updated Zoning Ordinance. No prior planning experience is needed.  All community members are welcome. 

Community Survey

Take the online survey to share input on community priorities, what regulations should change, and a variety of topics like housing, landscaping, business, and more. Your input will help shape code updates that ultimately shape the community.
