75,000. That is the number of young people reached by Be Someone, Inc. since its inception in 2001. Making that number even more impressive is the fact that many of those youngsters were considered to be “at risk”… at risk of failing and causing pain and sorrow both to themselves and others.
How were they reached? On a chess board. That’s right, a chess board!
Be Someone Inc. founder Orrin Hudson was an at-risk youngster himself when a teacher saw potential and taught him the game. That proved the gateway to life-changing success. He will tell you, “It opened up a world I did not know. It taught me to use my God-given brain to make smart decisions. It taught me there is a consequence for every move I make whether on the chess board or in life.”
Hudson likes to say this about the game of chess, “It not only changed my life, it saved it.”
Fast forward almost 20 years to today. Be Someone’s classroom lights are dark because of COVID-19. Students who need Hudson’s life-changing lessons must wait. But time is not on their side. Where there are obstacles, Hudson sees opportunity. He asks, “What if I could reach young people anytime, from anywhere? What if my classroom had unlimited seating?” His answer: online instruction, but that takes investment money.
He is thinking $3-5,000 to develop a web-based instruction program. It won’t be hard to do. He has all the puzzle pieces. He just needs help putting them together in a new format. A dream led him to develop Be Someone. His newest dream is that his life-changing classroom can be open 24/7 with unlimited seating.
