DECATUR, GA—The DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office is collecting food items to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank this holiday season. Customers visiting any DeKalb tax office location Nov. 3 — Dec. 5 may participate in the food drive by donating canned or non-perishable food items during office hours.
“Each year, the DeKalb Tax Commissioner’s Office hosts a holiday food drive to collect food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and local pantries in DeKalb County. This year, particularly, these donations are greatly needed due to the ongoing federal government shutdown impacting families in Georgia,” said Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson. “It’s essential our communities come together and support one another, and we invite the public to join us in helping our neighbors in need.”
The Atlanta Community Food Bank works with nearly 700 community-based nonprofit partners to distribute more than nine million pounds of donated food and grocery products across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. These include food pantries, missions, community and senior centers, schools, and healthcare facilities.
“Together, we can make a difference for families and individuals who rely on food pantries during the holidays. This food drive will serve many families in need within our community, and all donated items will go directly to the Atlanta Community Food Bank,” said Johnson.
Last year, the tax commissioner’s office collected more than 2,300 pounds of food to support the ACFB. The donation provided over 1,930 meals for families in DeKalb and neighboring communities.
