Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon recently announced the receipt of a grant award of $130,382.40 to continue traffic data research. The funding is from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) and includes h federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
This award is for the period of Oct.1, 2025 to Sept. 30, 2026 and will fund a Traffic Data Analyst position dedicated to analyzing and interpreting population-based statistics to identify problems, recommend solutions and prepare responses for program development and implementation.
“I am grateful for GOHS’s continued grant support, which empowers DDS to analyze critical traffic data and advance highway safety and injury prevention initiatives across Georgia and beyond,” said DDS Commissioner McClendon.
Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), concurred.
“Innovative projects like this are designed with the intent for Georgia and our nation to reach the realistic goal of zero traffic deaths by the middle of this century,” said Poole. “Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable.”
The DDS Traffic Data Analyst plays a crucial role in helping combat highway fatalities by analyzing traffic patterns, crash data, and driver behavior, the DDS stated. Studies are being conducted to analyze violations such as speeding tickets and other violations that are most frequently associated with fatal crashes. Analyzing driver demographics can also help understand how factors like age, driving experience, or vehicle contribute to accident risks.
